APPODEAL RELEASES SECOND ANNUAL MOBILE IN-APP AD MONETIZATION PERFORMANCE INDEX, REVEALS HIGHEST EARNING AD FORMATS AND RANKS TOP PERFORMING AD NETWORKS
Rewarded videos offer highest earning potential in the U.S., eCPMs on iOS remain higher than on Android, and eCPMs in East Asia are growing at an unprecedented rate
San Francisco, CA — December 3, 2018 — Mobile app developers and publishers relying on ads to generate income need robust ad monetization strategies. With that in mind, Appodeal, a leading mobile ad monetization solution, has released its second annual Mobile In-App Ad Monetization Performance Index. As the only one of its kind in the industry, the report analyzes earnings generated by rewarded videos, banner, and interstitial ad formats to reveal global in-app ad monetization trends and identify top performing ad networks.
Findings focus on data from five key global regions — United States, Western Europe, Eastern Europe, East Asia, and South America — and are based on performance data from more than 60 ad demand sources, 33,000 apps, and more than 51 billion impressions between January 2018 and June 2018.
The U.S. continued to lead with the highest eCPM performance results. The region saw rewarded video eCPMs increase significantly, with an average of $13.75 on iOS (52% increase compared to H1 2017) and $12.01 on Android (38% increase), while interstitial eCPMs received slight increases to their high performing results from last year. Rewarded videos emerged as a top performer in Western Europe, with an average of $5.77 on iOS and $2.95 on Android. Perhaps most notable was the high growth rate in East Asia, where rewarded videos received a significant bump in eCPMs on both iOS and Android — averaging at $12.32 (64% increase) and $5.43 (28% increase), respectively.
For publishers looking for the right ad network partner, Appodeal’s report ranks ad networks based on their performance in each ad format. Ad network ranking data also highlights the role Google AdMob and Facebook Audience Network have played in pushing the monetization power of rewarded video to new levels this year — marking a trend that started in 2017 when the two tech giants entered the rewarded video space, and one that will no doubt continue to grow over the next year.
